Kitsap Respiratory Illness Report: Week 52 (12/22/2024-12/28/2024)

In week ending December 28, local indicators for influenza were high and continuing to increase for a second week, surpassing peak flu activity observed last year. Local indicators for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) were also high and rising. Local indicators for COVID-19 remained minimal. Regional laboratory surveillance most frequently detected RSV and Influenza A among clinical respiratory specimens. Elevated pertussis activity continues to be reported throughout Washington State.

4.1% of emergency department (ED) visits were attributable to influenza, 1.3% of ED visits were attributable to RSV, and fewer than 10 visits were attributable to COVID-19. Kitsap sentinel reporting labs reported 11 positive COVID-19 tests (2.0% of specimens tested), 162 positive influenza tests (135 influenza A, 27 influenza B; 26.0% of specimens tested), and 48 positive RSV tests (18.4% of specimens tested).

On average, fewer than 10 hospital beds at St. Michael Medical Center were in use per day for COVID-19 or influenza patients.

At Kitsap long-term care facilities, there has been one COVID-19 outbreak reported in the past four reporting weeks, and no influenza outbreaks.
